Can I start training even if I’m really overweight?

“You know, I’d really like to join your gym, but I think I need to lose some weight first. I just don’t think I’m ready for it yet”.

Yup, I’ve had that conversation. As a coach, It hurts. Coaches are funny people, our job is to make you do things for yourself that are good for you, but that you don’t really want to do. Or would have a hard time motivating yourself to do in our absence. Weird, right? Like, I wanna help this person so badly, I know I can, that’s LITERALLY why I opened the gym in the first place, but they’re scared, or feel ashamed.

Well it sounds straightforward but, don’t be. Taking that first step to walk into a gym is a big one. But do your research first. Find a gym that has the right vibe.

One of our Core Values is to Help First. That means we don’t care where you’re starting from, if you need a place that’s going to get you moving on your path to health, we’re going to help you find it. Even if that means it isn’t with us right away. Maybe its some distance coaching for Nutrition, maybe its a walking schedule or home exercise program that only lasts 15 minutes. Doesn’t matter to us, we’re just here to help.

We’ll meet you where you are, with exercise, nutrition and motivation. The way that I built the gym, the idea was never to have to push someone into a program they aren’t ready for.

The downside to larger group style programs is that they are harder to scale. 1 coach for 15 people is cheaper, and the coach may be great and finding variations for you, but they have 14 other people to help too, so its possible to get lost in the mix.

We don’t do that. Find variations for exercises that make you feel good. We want your confidence levels with your own body to grow. Feel a sense of accomplishment when you’ve completed something, instead of a sense of disappointment if its too hard.

Food is the same. We want you to find something that works. Don’t know what to shop for? We can give you a list, or give you a virtual walkthrough with a nutrition coach. Don’t know what to make? We have recipe books, more coaching options, videos, emails.

It doesn’t matter where you’re starting from, there are always options to get you going.

To be cliché, a journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step.
